Cardiologists use changes in the relative locations of the maxima and minima for the P and T waves, as well as the so-called “QRS complex” of electrocardiogram readings, to diagnose heart problems.

The website found here provides an excellent source that details how such diagnoses are done. It also presents simulated electrocardiogram outputs that can be used to practice diagnosing different conditions.
